本授業では、中国の人や文化がどのように東南アジア史に影響を与え、また東南アジアの中の華人社会や華人文化を作り上げてきたのかを考察します。東南アジア研究、華僑華人研究、中国・東南アジア関係史といって分野に資する授業にするつもりです。

そのための基本的な方法として、学術雑誌の論文を精読します。雑誌論文を選んだのは、バックグラウンドの知識が必要な反面、論点がはっきりしており、短いからです。また、論文を書くことが当面の目標ですので、様々な論文を読むことにより、論文の形式を学ぶこともできます。

東南アジアにおける華人の関与は、東南アジア史全般に関わるものです。表題のテーマを理解しようとするのであれば、個別の状況やテーマ設定と共に、東南アジア史全般に対する理解が欠かせません。個別の論点についての他文献や東南アジア史全般に係る部分は、毎回文献リストまたは簡単なレジュメを私が用意します。また、文献リストやレジュメはＨＰにアップするようにします。

・マレーシア華人の政治については、文献14は古い。現在の華人政治ではDemocratic Action Partyが優勢であり、この政党の分析が必要。 ただし論文はいまだに書かれていない。
・文献25については、提示されたEthnic ChineseとYunanese Chinese の関係、実際の学校での授業のエスノグラフィー、それぞれの自己認識の研究等が求められる。

今学期は古代史から現在までの東南アジア国家論・政治経済論を読むことを予定しています。
他地域、歴史学以外のディシプリンに関心のある方も歓迎しますが、東南アジア研究の発表・文献輪読が主です。ヨーロッパ・南北アメリカ・オーストラリアとも他のアジアやアフリカとも大変に異なった地域ですので、得るものは大きいと思いますが、違和感もあろうかと思います。ディシプリン的には、基本的には地域研究で、その上に歴史学があるという感じです。ついては、ディシプリン的な縛りはきつくありませんが、逆にディシプリン的な訓練の場とはあまりなりません。
